Applicants flood executive search firm as top talent nationwide eyes the Pensacola Bay Area for their next move up the ladder; four Board members begin culling them down

Here are the details:

The non-profit Community Maritime Park Associates' (nonprofit CMPA) Board of Trustees were handed 20 resumes from across America as applicants lined up to win the Executive Director's title. We've listed them and their highlight qualification as published in the Pensacola News Journal last Saturday (July 14, 2007).

Board members Juanita Scott (Chair), Dr. Jimmy Jones , Rodney Jackson and Kathlyn White were appointed by the Board to begin the process of coming up with a short list of four or five candidates for personal interviews with the Board.

According to the job description posted on the website of Slavin Management Consultants based in Norcross, GA, a suburb of Atlanta, "The Executive Director will serve as the focal point for the community and provide overall leadership and day-to-day management to the organization in the form of budget management, grant writing, program planning, relations development, community engagement, Board facilitation, contract development, and manage government and public relations. The Director will also be responsible for overseeing the development, supervision, and completion of major projects for the Board."

The site tells applicants to send their applications directly to the search firm's president, Robert E. Slavin .

Like everything else about the nonprofit CMPA, all applications are open for public inspection under Florida's Government in the Sunshine Act. The site tells candidates, "Under Florida Law, resumes are public documents and will be provided to the media upon request. Please call prior to submitting your resume if confidentiality is important to you."

In a more detailed description of the job, posted in another location on the search firm's website , "The position requires a Bachelors degree in Public Administration, Business or similar field including five years of responsible professional experience in the area of planning, property development, or economic development."

It then lists this outline for the position under the heading Goals and Objectives:

* Community park providing more than a half-mile of uninterrupted waterfront access.

* Multi-use facility for sports, cultural, festival, and other community events.

* Maritime museum and research facility.

* Maritime museum dock facility for tall ships, research ships, and visiting vessels.

* Community conference/continuing education center.

* Retail and office space spurring waterfront development and creating economic opening to West Pensacola.

In description the nonprofit CMPA, the site tells readers, "Community Maritime Park Associates, Inc. (CMPA) is a not-for-profit organization created in order to:

* Open up the waterfront to all,

* Create educational opportunities for people of all ages,

* Create good paying jobs,

* Provide a location for thousands to enjoy the community and each other through open land for picnicking, fishing, and providing a venue for concerts, plays and sports,

* Attract investment into the downtown area that then benefits all of northwest Florida. It is expected that a project of this size to attract companies looking to relocate and provide additional new high-paying jobs to the community."

Here is the list published on July 14, 2007 in the Pensacola News Journal, prepared by staff writer Jamie Page, who is covering the story for the newspaper:
