Glenn's Corner: Calling all volunteers!

Tuesday December 18th, 2007 - 3:25PM

* Glenn's Corner: Calling all volunteers

* Friends needs a place to call home

* Ellen C. Hoefer of Peoples First Community Bank volunteers to be Friends' treasurer!

The non-profit Community Maritime Park Associates (non-profit CMPA) Board of Trustees has endorsed Friends (the organization and website) as the official volunteer auxiliary at the non-profit CMPA meeting last week.

We have also received the endorsement of the non-profit CMPA to begin formal planning to assist the city with cleanup efforts of the park property.

So with that said, we will be looking for volunteers to cut tree limbs, mark holes, cut grass, pick up trash and other means to get the property looking nice, thus giving everyone a clear view to the bay. If you are a landscaper, or just a supporter that believes in the park and are willing to contribute some of your time and/or equipment to help, we would love to have you!

For those that are interested in volunteering and assisting Friends with this project please tell us how badly you want to help!

The preferred method to volunteer is to visit the website at http://communitymaritimepark.com and click the "Contact" tab and fill out the form.

Or if you prefer to email me you may do so by sending an email to glenn@communitymaritimepark.com with "WE WANT TO HELP THE CMP!" as the subject.

Friends needs a place to call home

Friends is looking for a property to set up as its offices. We'd prefer a downtown street-front so that we can garner the visibility that comes with that type of location. We will also needs access into the evening hours so that working Friends can participate in volunteer projects when they get off their job.

Friends will be more than happy to accept shared arrangements with another business. So if you have excess square footage, then we would love to talk with you about that arrangement as well.

In the short run - 3 - 6 months, Friends will need a rent-deferred arrangement until we are incorporated as a non-profit and have some donations in the treasury.

Like any other non-profit civic organization, Friends survives on the generosity of its supporters. If you have a property available, or know of one, please contact Glenn C. Obert at this email address:

Ellen C. Hoefer of Peoples First Community Bank volunteers to be Friends' treasurer!

A sage once said about life, "Every once in a while you win."

Friends won a major victory when Ellen C. Hoefer, assistant banking center manager for Peoples First Community Bank at their downtown Pensacola branch on Garden Street, volunteered to become the treasurer for Friends.

Ms. Hoefer's banking experience stretches back to 1981 when she worked her way up to assistant vice-president at Chase Bank, in her hometown, St. Petersburg, Florida. Prior to that promotion, she enjoyed a series of promotions from loan administrator, to assistant branch administrator, and then to operations officer prior to reaching the assistant vice-president slot.

Following her stint with Chase, Ms. Hoefer was general manager of St. Petersburg's first-tier real estate firm of Hofacker and Associates, and administrative assistant at First Baptist Church of St. Petersburg. She joined Peoples First in 2004.

Welcome Ellen - from all your Friends!
