Enough - Time for Truth!
Monday August 16th, 2010 - 7:41AM
Enough of Marty Donovan and Jack Nobles twisting the facts.
Enough distorting the truth about Community Maritime Park.
Enough trying to convince Pensacola voters they made a mistake in approving the park in 2006.
TIME FOR TRUTH.
TRUTH IS:
A new referendum on the park contract could expose city government to "an enormous financial liability. . .in all likelihood destroying the city's future ability to secure municipal financing." - City Attorney Rusty Wells
$13 million in Federal Government tax credits would be lost by canceling the contract.
Paying off the bonds early would create millions of dollars more in liability for the city.
That's a legal opinion, cold, hard fact from the city attorney - not sore-loser sour grapes from Marty Donovan and Jack Nobles.
This farce has gone on too long. The people of Pensacola spoke loudly and clearly four years ago. They wanted Maritime Park. There is no need for another referendum. Even former park opponent and Pensacola News Journal columnist Mark O'Brien concedes that. "The war is over, fellas," he wrote in a recent column. "Let's make the best of it and move on."
A hearty second to that motion. Let's move on with a project that offers promise of hundreds of construction and permanent jobs, downtown renewal, economic revival and cultural enrichment. If you see Marty Donovan or Jack Nobles, this is what you should say:
