Rise up Pensacola - You are destined for greatness!
By Charlotte Brown
I must confess I was slow to come around to the concept of the Community Maritime Park.
I wanted to make the right decision, so I researched through a tremendous wealth of information. Considering everything, it was a clear decision to vote "Yes!"
I liked what I heard. Now I - and you - can see it.
On Sept. 26, I finally went to my first-ever meeting of the non-profit Community Maritime Park Associates' Board of Trustees. A digital presentation revealed how the board is implementing the park's plans.
It is phenomenal.
You can see the digital palettes for yourself by visiting http://www.communitymaritimepark.com. The maritime park is the key to put Pensacola back in the competition, to bring in the economy we so greatly need, and to make Pensacola the cosmopolitan city it longs to be!
Without fail, sad references are made every week comparing Pensacola to Orange Beach or Destin. It seems the music venues and all the exciting happenings are going on in our sister cities.
When you see the digital renderings, you are going to wish the park were here yesterday. It answers economic growth. The park creates the lifestyle and culture that attracts companies to bring their business to our city.
The CMP is so well planned; every detail is there. This is not just another park, this is a community. In its entirety, this community is a combination of residential, much needed large corporate office space, restaurants, shops, the maritime museum, a UWF campus extension, and the multi-use stadium. There are beautiful promenades, park seating to enjoy the waterfront, and an outdoor festival area to accommodate 5,000 people.
Again, I say this is that which the Pensacola Bay Area needs!
Pensacola deserves to be a first-class cosmopolitan city. Our natural resources and having the privilege of being the Cradle of Naval Aviation gives us an unbeatable edge.
I believe this city is crying out for its destiny. We are so rich in heritage. What an honor to be America’s First City!
We have the right to be natural leaders; we are a very special place. As a year-round resident, your heart melts into this community. And we all know how visitors fall in love with the Pensacola Bay Area.
It is time for a dramatic, permanent, shift in our everyday thinking. We need to start being thankful for what we have.
A stuck mindset of negativity and stagnancy runs counter to the vision that has been cast for enhancing America’s First City.
It's time to leave the past behind and go forward. Please do yourself a favor, go to the website, and see the exciting vision unveiled.
Rise up Pensacola, you are destined for greatness!

* Glenn's Corner: "We smashed right through another record!"

What a difference a year makes! Our high point in 2006 was in July when the site pulled down 2,453 hits. This September, Friends recorded 15,345 hits. When you are up 625% in one year - well, the information you're posting is in very high demand.
Don't let anyone try to tell you this is just a local attraction; look at this list of countries wanting to get in on all the excitement: United Kingdom, Bahamas, Brazil, China, Israel, Germany, Thailand, Venezuela, and the Netherlands.
Keep that in mind when someone asks you if the Pensacola Bay Area's Vince J. Whibbs Sr. Community Maritime Park is an honest to goodness Fire Starter.
Each month is becoming a record month as we see higher and higher numbers smashing through the previous month's records.
Here is something else to keep in mind: When the new Friends site opened in August, the average time spent on the site was about 2 minutes. In just 30 days, the time spent on the site is 5 times what it was then - the average time spent on the site is now up to 10 minutes, 22 seconds - and still growing longer as more content is added.
But there is one statistic that we all need to know when someone asks if this is just a group of park die-hards, or is this really the first signs of national and international attention.
Since the new site went up in August, 92% of all visitors are first-time visitors.
Yes, the Pensacola Bay Area's Vince J. Whibbs Sr. Community Maritime Park is exactly what Friends promised it would be: A Fire Starter - after all the work done, and all that is to be done, the park is the promise coming true.
