Public input scheduled for roll-out of park design criteria at Sept. 26 board meeting

The public is invited to ask questions about the park's design criteria when Miller Caldwell, principle architect for the firm of Caldwell Associates Architects, presents a host of renderings, graphics, and other architectural drawings that will be passed onto the Master developer candidates at the Sept. 26 meeting of the non-profit CMPA's Board of Trustees in City Hall's 2nd floor conference room.

"We want to give the public an opportunity to ask questions, and see for themselves the tremendous progress we are making on turning the park's vision into realty," explained Mr. Caldwell.

Most import, Mr. Caldwell noted, is that, "we want to show the public we are staying consistent with the development that was approved by the voters in last year's referendum and to solicit their involvment."

Key to success, Mr. Caldwell suggested, is, "that the site relates to the waterfront by connecting it to the downtown framework. It's critical that we give the public strong connectivity to the waterfront."

As an example, Mr. Caldwell said there will be a Palette Book, "that shows the texture and character of downtown that we are passing into the hands of the Master Developer."

In addition to Mr. Caldwell's firm, urban planner Ray Grindroz's firm Urban Design Associates, landscape design firm Saski, and architects HKS of Orlando will open up their visuals so that this meeting will encompass every aspect of the park's attributes.

"But the most important thing is that we want the public to attend and ask questions, and get those questions answered," Mr. Caldwell emphasized. "Everyone who lives in the Pensacola Bay Area constitute the 'family' of residents who entrusted the non-profit CMPA to build this historic commitment to creating a waterfront for everybody's enjoyment. This is when everyone can come and see for themselves all the excitement and quality of the park, guided by a public-first focus of prudent decision-making that the board is taking to live up to that trust."

The timeline is tight: By Oct. 12, Mr. Caldwell said he expects to take what is presented to the board, combined with the questions from this public session, and create a draft Request for Proposals (RFQ) to be approved by the board.

Within the six-weeks following, he said the RFQ will be fully developed and then sent to the Master Developer candidates. They will then have another 2 months to respond with their ideas for meeting the design criteria.

Your Friends news report will have another update about this critical meeting in our Tuesday, Sept. 25 issue.

Your involvement means your vision of Pensacola is becoming a reality! Plan to be at this critical meeting to see for yourself all the progress the park is making.

New Additions to the Friends website!

Site designer Glenn C. Obert gives this report:

There have been some more new features added to this site that were built and integrated this past weekend. Aside from the background optimizations that make this site load faster, you may notice there is a new "Sign-Up" page which is much smaller, better integrated into this site, and much less intimidating to the viewer. We invite everyone to check it out. There is also a section devoted to links that will take you to other CMP-related sites.

As always, if you have any content that you would like to add or see here, perhaps a link or any kind of information related to the development of the CMP, please use the Contact Friends link at the top of the page. We would all appreciate it.

Thank-you, Friends
