ExDi list culled to 7
The Search Subcommittee of the non-profit Community Maritime Park Associates, Inc. winnowed the list of candidates for the Executive Director's (ExDi) position down to 7.
Commenting on the quality of the candidates, subcommittee member Kathlyn White said, "The resumes for the ExDi position were very impressive. It speaks volumes for Pensacola that people of this caliber want to come here, and can see the long-term positive impact that the Park will have on this community."
At the bottom of this article you will find an email list for the subcommittee members. Feel free to email them with your thoughts about the candidates!

Friends web site opens to massive response
This is the story that ran in the Friday, August 17, 2007 issue of the Pensacola News Journal:
Maritime park friends launch new Web site - from staff reports
The Friends of the Pensacola Bay Area's Vince J. Whibbs Sr. Community Maritime Park has launched a Web site.
The site - http://supporters.communitymaritimepark.com - will report on the progress in building the park and eventually will be used to note park events and news.
Glenn C. Obert, owner of Webfoot Enterprises, created the site.
Visitors to the site will find information on how to sign up to receive the Friends newsletter and an archive of previous newsletters.
For more information, contact Obert at 479-0777 or e-mail him at glenn@webfootenterprises.com.

The site is being created without charge to the non-profit Community Maritime Park Associates, Inc. (non-profit CMPA) - in fact, none of the work you see in the site, or in the Friends news report is being compensated by the non-profit CMPA. They are 100% privately funded.
If anyone asks, tell them it's free. Not one penny of anybody's tax dollars, or other government revenue, is funding these projects. It is privately funded in its entirety.
Friends received quite a number of emails offering ideas for what types of information to post. One asked for providing a set-aside area specifically to allow visitors opportunities to express themselves. The Suggestion Box is already up, and we see a couple other items coming online shortly.
Here are some other facts about the site's launch, from Glenn C. Obert, the site's creator:
The new Friends of the Pensacola Bay Area's Vince J. Whibbs Sr. Community Maritime Park webpage has been online for under 2 weeks and has generated more in that time period than the previous supporters page did in all of 2006.
For the entire period in 2006 that the page was up received a total of 3980 hits. By comparison, this year between the dates of August 14th through 26th we received 4701!
2571 of these hits were counted in one day alone! The number of visits is steadily increasing as more content gets added to the page, as well as the number of sign-ups to the newsletter. They increased by nearly 9% in this short period.
It seems the community really wanted and needed this page. The response was all positive with email after email expressing interest in the site's growth, and some extending their heartfelt thanks for the site's creation and progress.
We are always looking for additional comments and suggestions which can be submitted through the "contact friends" tab in the upper right corner of the page itself. Expect to see more content and features added in the near future!
Thank you everyone - keep those emails coming!
Go to the Contact Friends tab at
http://communitymaritimepark.com
and let me know what you think!

* "The Visionaries" to highlight Mayor Whibbs and Adm. Fetterman
One idea we received that is very important is an area entitled, "The Visionaries." It will focus upon the late Mayor Vince J. Whibbs, Sr., and Admiral John H. Fetterman.
Representatives of both families have tentatively agreed to provide photos, bios, and quotes for the site to use. A family representative will be chosen by the families to act as the final approval for the site's content.
We want to express our appreciation to the families for ensuring the contributions of these individuals are properly recognized and their words and deeds remembered.

* Link up to the Maritime Museum
A number of people asked us to include a link for those interested in learning more about the Adm. John H. Fetterman State of Florida Maritime Museum and Research Center at the University of West Florida Community Maritime Park Campus.
Give this link a try, then bookmark it for future updates!
