Subject: We want our CMP
Councilman Hall – I appreciate you taking the initiative to see if there is support for the City Council finding alternative funding sources for the Vince Whibbs Community Maritime Park. Although I am not participating as an architect on this project, I can think of no more symbolically important project for our community than this one. Assuring a viable source of funding in making this project a reality will demonstrate to the business community and to the emerging younger generations who we are trying to attract and retain, that we have the elected leadership that is both committed and capable of making our revitalized waterfront vision a reality. While many bemoan the dearth of progressive development in Pensacola relative to our neighbors to the east and west, this project will go miles in turning that perception around. It will also provide the needed stimulus for continued commercial and residential development in our downtown. We have a number of projects stalled that will most likely resume once this project is seen moving into reality.
Again, thank you for soliciting a point of view that does not reflect the safety of a “no” vote. Anything worth having requires some risk. It is time for Pensacola to step up and move into its next era of growth, opportunity, and prosperity.
