Hon. Sam Hall, Pensacola City Council,
As president of the Gulf Coast African American Chamber of Commerce, I want to encourage you to exhaust all possible avenues in seeking funding for the Community Maritime Park. It is no secret that this organization sees this once in a lifetime opportunity as a mechanism to create, develop, and enhance not only local minority businesses, but to create economic opportunities for the entire community as well.
It is the goal of every elected official to attempt to improve the social and economic conditions of the citizens who elected them. Improvement only happens when there is change. The Community Maritime Park can be that change agent. However, for it to be that agent, you and your fellow city council members must lead the way.
Remember, this project will create jobs, increase the city's tax base, and help the city keep pace with the other communities along the Gulf Coast who seek that competitive tourist dollar which our local economy relies heavily upon.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Darnell Sims
President, Gulf Coast African American Chamber of Commerce
